Backbone optical cable

Backbone optical cable: The advanced communication technology of the future

In today's information age, where data transmission has become an integral part of our daily lives, reliable and efficient networking solutions are becoming critical. One of the key technologies that enables the transmission of huge amounts of data over significant distances is backbone fiber optic cable. This is a unique type of light guide formed from one or more optical fibers, which are thin strands of glass. As a result, they are capable of transmitting information in the form of light signals over enormous distances, providing outstanding speed and reliability in data transmission.

Advantages of trunked OCs

  • Fast data transmission: These fibers offer incredibly high data transmission speeds, allowing huge amounts of information to be transmitted in a short amount of time.
  • High bandwidth: By using multiple fibers in a single cable, its bandwidth is significantly higher than traditional copper options.
  • Reliability: Optical fibers are highly resistant to electromagnetic interference and external influences such as moisture and corrosion.
  • Lower signal loss: Fiber optic systems minimize signal loss over significant distances, making them ideal for use in long-distance communication networks.

Fibers categories:

1. Single-mode :

This kind of cable is used to transmit a light signal in only one direction. Its fibers are much smaller in diameter, allowing the signal to travel as a single beam mode (single path). This allows data to be transmitted over long distances with minimal signal loss. Single-mode cables are widely used in telecommunication systems, long-haul networks, and carrier communications networks.

2. Multimode:

This type of cable allows a light signal to be transmitted over multiple beam modes (multiple paths). They have a larger fiber diameter, which causes small signal loss over short distances. Multimode cables find their use in limited applications such as local computer networks, buildings and data centers.

3. Armored:

They are FOCLs with additional protection in the form of armor. This can be a steel cord wrapped around the optical fiber, or a special metal jacket that provides increased protection against mechanical damage, moisture and other external influences. Armored optical cables are used in environments where there is a high risk of damage to the network infrastructure, such as underground tunnels, underwater, as well as in industrial and military applications.
