Optical patchcords and patch cords
To interconnect digital distribution devices, as well as to connect them to functional network equipment, optical patch cords manufactured in Kharkov are used. In appearance, it is a fiber optic cable with a length of half a meter. The edges of such a wire must be crimped with connectors. The latter are selected to a certain size. Finished products vary:

  • the type of cable itself (one or two fibers);
  • type of connectors;
  • bending radius;
  • mechanical strength;
  • resistance to natural factors.

Sold in coils of a certain length, differ in the way of installation (internal / external).

Buy an optical connecting cord for an adapter
A distinction is made between simplex and duplex cables. Wires with two identical connectors on the edges are called optical patch cords - you can order them through the IPCOM online store. Different connectors are installed on adapters and are labeled FC or LC.

Polishing type. It can be machine (marked with UPC) or flat with cut ends (marked with APC). The machine-polished end of the wire is cut at a 90 ° angle, and with a flat one - at an 8 ° angle. These two types of processing cannot be combined, as there is a threat of damage to the fiber itself. Provides high speed signal transmission over the patch cord.
Cable type. It can be single and double. The first is called simplex, the second is duplex. The ends of both wires can be crimped with the same or different connectors. Depending on the type of connector, the cords can serve as a connection or be used as adapters.
Most often, optical patch cord is purchased at an affordable cost with machine UPC polishing. Visually, such a cable is distinguished by a convex shape, a blue braid, and its tip is in close contact with the socket of the outlet. APC cords have a very small beveled cut (no more than 8 °). In addition, they are distinguished by a green braid.

Interesting! Various tip shapes are used to reflect interference signals that travel over fiber optic lines and significantly degrade communications.

Best shielded from interference is an APC-marked patch cord. Its tips effectively reflect interference, improving signal quality. At the same time, such wires are not combined with other types of cords, which narrows the scope of their application. Therefore, an optical connecting cord with UPC marking remains widespread - the price of such an accessory is always acceptable for buyers.

How to choose and order connectors for an optical cable
When choosing a patchcord, the type and shape of the connectors with which the working edges of the wire are crimped are important.

The FC type connectors feature a rounded metal body with a built-in spring. They are made in the form of a safety ring, for which they received the name Ferrule. For reliable fixation, such a connector must be tightly turned in the socket (screwed in).

Standard plastic snap models are designated SC. And in a smaller version, LC-caps are made. Due to the ability to glow, they were named Lucent Connector. They can be connected in large numbers to patch panels.

If a multimode cable with UPC polish is used, then it is crimped with ST connectors. Straight connectors are made of nickel-brass alloy. Therefore, they are durable and resistant to damage.
